WordPress Administrator Can No Longer Author Posts

It seems that there is a bug in WordPress where an Administrator's name disappears from the Post Author dropdown box that displays on the "new post" or "edit post" window.

In almost every case, the Administrator's name disappears after having added one or more new Users (Subscribers, Contributors, Authors) to the blog account.

So one day we view a new post we've just published and, lo and behold, SOMEONE ELSE is listed as the author! Then when we edit the post, we find our name missing from the Post Authors list.

** How to fix the problem **

Note: Before proceeding, make sure the "Display name publicly as" field in your User Profile is filled in. Usually it is pre-filled from other required fields, but check just the same.)
  1. Login as yourself - the Administrator. Create a new Administrator User. Log-out. (Note: If a second Administrator on the account is not having this problem, skip this step.)
  2. Login as the new (or other) Administrator and edit your User Profile. Change Role to "Subscriber" and click Save
  3. Then, change the Role back to "Administrator" and click Save. Log-out.
  4. Log back into Wordpress as yourself. Your name should now appear in the Post Author list.

Why does this happen? In our experience it happened as soon as we added a couple of Subscriber Users to the blog and they began to login. When the Administrator published a post, the author defaulted to the first User on the list. However, we added a second Administrator User to the blog which neither created the problem or experienced the problem.

This remedy is scattered here 'n there on the Internet, but we read the suggestion, provided by Mickmel, buried in the WordPress.org forum. It appears to be a fairly long-standing WordPress bug.

We hope this fixes your problem.
