Easy RSS Feed Instructions for a List (with Links) to All Your Blog Posts

Would you like a list of your Post Titles on your sidebar? Would you like it to be automatically generated? And automatically updated each time you post a new blog post?

You can by using the RSS Feed that has already been created for your Blogger blog. And you don't have to know anything about RSS Feeds or XML.

If you are reading this post and your blog is not with Google Blogger, or if you want to understand what an RSS Feed is (learning is good!), go to the website link below and click the "Find" tab.

Follow these instructions to add a listing of your Post Titles to your blog sidebar:
  1. First, open a browser window and sign into Google. Click My Account and click Blogger. Then click Layout for the applicable blog on the Dashboard.
  2. Save a fresh download of your template before making changes in case something goes awry.

  3. Open a second browser window and go to http://feed2js.org.

  4. Click the Build tab. Copy and paste one of the feeds below into the URL box, substituting your blog domain name for "myblog."

  5. Click Preview Feed to make sure your feed works. If you see your post titles, proceed.
  6. Here are some options on the "Build a Feed!" window you may want to change:
    • If you don't want the name of your blog at the top, select "no" for Show Channel.
    • If you want the post title only and not descriptions, make sure a "0" is in the box for Show/Hide item descriptions?
    • If you want the blog date to display, select "yes" for Show item posting date?
    • Be nice to your guests and make sure "n" is in the box for Target links in the new window? Nobody wants a new window to open each time they click on one of your posts.

  7. Click Preview Feed again. When it looks OK, click Generate JavaScript. Highlight the code, right-click, and click Copy. Leave the browser window open.
  8. Go to your Blogger Layout. Click Add a Gadget, and choose a HTML/JavaScript gadget by clicking on the blue and white + sign.
  9. Paste the code in the Content box. Type in a title like Posts Listed by Title and click Save.
  10. Click and drag the gadget to where you want it on the sidebar. Then click Save.
  11. Now click View Blog and your list should display.
  12. Close the feed2js.org browser window.

You should see your post titles. They will not be in alphabetically order, but listed in the order posted. Your list of blog post titles should format like the other elements on the sidebar. However, the feed2js.org website does have instructions on how to create your own CSS classes to format the list yourself if you have the desire and skill.

The website has sample styles that you can view if you want to add your own CSS formatting. The samples don't show any post titles, but they do show font, border, and background colors. You can copy the CSS from any of the styles and modify it to suit your taste.

When you add a post, don't be alarmed if the post title list doesn't display immediately. It may take 30 minutes or more, but it will update automatically.
