Have you lost or mislaid your Google Analytics tracking code? If you have previously established a Google Analytics account for one or more websites or blogs and need to find the CODE from within Google Analytics, it can be difficult to find. Google keeps changing the interface ... and I have to keep updating this blog post! So here goes:
To find the Google Analytics code for your blog or website:
- Log into your Google account and select Google Analytics from the list of products. Click on the website or blog whose code you wish to locate.
- From any Analytics report, click the gear icon in the upper right corner. The profile settings for that website or blog are displayed on the next window.
- Below the URL displayed in bold are three tabs: Profiles, Tracking Code, and Property Settings. Click the Tracking Code tab.
- Your tracking code is displayed below. Copy it. Then open a new browser window and get into your blog (or edit your website file). Paste the Analytics tracking code in your website or blog HTML. Google states that you should insert the code in the "head" of your document - before the closing tag, but many of us successfully place the code at the bottom of the page before the closing body tag
